SCOSA Internal Funding: Guidance

Members are welcome to submit applications for funding for specific events or activities at any time.  SCOSA may withdraw this open call at any time, subject to the availability of funds.

In the context of this document ‘members’ refers to any member of staff at a school of architecture, which is a current member of SCOSA.

Any SCOSA funded activities, or event, should offer support to all member schools.  Activities, or events, may address any aspect of architectural education.

Examples of projects previously supported by SCOSA funding include the following:

  • SCOSA has previously provided funding to support projects carried out by SCOSA working groups which created outputs or resources for the benefit of SCOSA members.  SCOSA provided funding to support the use of RAs for specified periods, to help prepare the outputs of our working groups.  This has included collation & dissemination of research which informs architectural education, and case studies & resources which support architectural education.

  • SCOSA has previously funded the production of hard copies of outputs & resources prepared by SCOSA members, for free distribution to member schools.

  • SCOSA has previously provided funding to cover reasonable catering costs associated with in-person conferences, workshops, symposia and events organised by SCOSA members, and open to all members, on specific areas within architectural education.

Reasonable travel expenses for external speakers at in-person SCOSA events have also been previously covered by SCOSA funding. Areas not appropriate for SCOSA funding include:

  • Activities or events for the benefit of specific schools or cohorts only

  • Travel and accommodation expenses for members attending in-person meetings and workshops

  • Open-ended activities with no fixed end point

  • Funding of members time in associated with activities and events.

Members considering applying for SCOSA funding should refer to the ‘SCOSA Internal Funding: Approval Framework’.

All funding must be approved in advance of any expenditure.

Applications should be made using the template in ‘SCOSA Internal Funding: Application Form’.

Completed application forms should be sent to secretary@scosa.org.uk.
