Aim

The Network aims to develop an understanding of the tendencies in Doctoral Education in Architecture towards enhancing the quality of the provision.

 

Objectives

A. Appreciating the state of the art of Doctoral Education in Architecture across UK Schools by mapping through learning sets, interviews surveys and questionnaires to chart:

  1. the genres (PhD, ProfDoc, ResD PhD, by publications, by design etc.) and support structures for candidates across UK Schools

  2. REF outputs in relation to the Doctoral Education provision

  3. bid initiatives and success stories involving doctoral students and supervisors

  4. the connection between employability prospects (professional practice / academy) and doctoral degrees

  5. the expertise of individual supervisors and supervisory teams

  6. the expertise of internal and examiners

B. enable supervisory staff development, working with, for eg. with the UKCGE Research Supervision Recognition Programme and supervisory staff.

C. enable examination and supervisory staff mobility.

D. create multi/inter/trans disciplinary networks and research centres to enhance new knowledge in SoA in the UK, working with, for eg. UKRI Doctoral Centres

E. create a database of expertise to be used for potential doctoral examiners or advisors across the UK

F. connect to the rest of the world for further collaborations, advice, bid partnerships, publication co-authorships, and joint supervisions.
