Survey on Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) practice in architectural education

Content and aims:

This survey has been developed by the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Working Group of the Standing Conference Of Schools of Architecture (SCOSA). Its main purpose is to support SCOSA in providing guidance to architectural schools on EDI matters.

More specifically, this survey aims to:

  • compare how architectural schools and courses across the UK are dealing with EDI matters;

  • identify recurrent difficulties or obstacles in the implementation of EDI policy or initiatives, and instigate debate around potential solutions;

  • canvass examples of good practice that could be shared with colleagues.

SCOSA will illustrate and disseminate the results of this study through a report. You will decide the extent to which the data you provide will be anonymised by SCOSA in its report. Depending on your preference, SCOSA will anonymise all of your responses or only part of them.

All questions are optional and you can choose to stop participating in the survey at any time.

How to take the survey

The survey closes on Friday 31 May 2024 and should be taken by one member of staff for each Institution, designated by the Dean/Head of School (or equivalent).

Please note:

  • responding to the survey should take around 60 minutes (if all questions are answered).

  • the platform used allows respondents to answer the questions in different sessions (as long as they  use the same browser and do not allow longer than 1 month between sessions).

  • you can view the whole list of questions before you start to take the survey here:

In the first screens of the survey, you will receive information on how data will be treated, stored and anonymised, on future communication with SCOSA, and on withdrawal from the survey itself.

The survey is hosted by Cardiff Metropolitan University and can be accessed through this link:
