Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA)
The Royal Institute of British Architects champions better buildings, communities and the environment through architecture and our members. We provide the standards, training, support and recognition that put our members – in the UK and overseas – at the peak of their profession.
Architects Registration Board (ARB)
ARB was established by Parliament in 1997 to regulate the architects’ profession in the UK. We are an independent, public interest body and our work in regulating architects ensures that good standards within the profession are consistently maintained for the benefit of the public and architects alike. Our duties are contained in the 1997 Architects Act, and cover six main areas: Prescribing – or ‘recognising’ – the qualifications needed to become an architect, keeping the UK Register of Architects, ensuring that architects meet our standards for conduct and practice, investigating complaints about an architect’s conduct or competence and making sure that only people on our Register offer their services as an architect.
Association of Architectural Educators
The association of architectural educators aims:To develop, support and represent communities of practice and learning in architectural education in the U.K. and Ireland.To encourage research and scholarship of teaching and learning in architectural education through critical and reflective discourse.To foster inclusive dialogues between the aae community, students and employers, and educational and professional bodies.To promote the value, richness, quality, and diversity inherent in architectural education.
European Association for Architectural Education
The EAAE is an international non-profit association committed to the exchange of ideas and people within the field of architectural education and research. The EAAE aims at improving the knowledge base and the quality of architectural and urban design education. It is a bi-lingual English/French association. Founded in 1975, the EAAE has grown in stature to become an institution fulfilling an increasingly essential role in providing a European perspective for the work of architectural educationalists as well as concerned governmental agencies.
National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB)
NCARB members are the architectural registration boards of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and three U.S. territories (Guam, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands). Each registration board has state-appointed public and professional members as well as an administrator.
Architects Council of Europe
Its growing membership consists of Member Organisations, which are the nationally representative regulatory and professional bodies of all European Union (EU) Member States, Accession States, Switzerland and Norway. Through them, it represents the interests of about 480,000 architects. The principal function of the ACE is to monitor developments at EU level, seeking to influence those areas of EU Policy and legislation that have an impact on architectural practice and on the overall quality and sustainability of the built environment.
Association for Professional Studies in Architecture (ASPA)
The Association for Professional Studies in Architecture (APSA) is an organisation of people involved in the provision of professional education and assessment in the delivery of architects and other architectural professionals. It brings together practitioners, students, academics and businesses related to the built environment to explore ways in which professional issues relating to architectural and construction practice can better be addressed.

Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE)
The Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) received its Royal Charter in 1976. It is the professional body that exists to: ‘support the Science, Art and Practice of building services engineering, by providing our members and the public with first class information and education services and promoting the spirit of fellowship which guides our work.'
CIBSE promotes the career of building services engineers by accrediting courses of study in further and higher education, by approving workbased training programmes and providing routes to full professional Registration and Membership, including Chartered Engineer, Incorporated Engineer and Engineering Technician. Once qualified, CIBSE offers a range of services, all focussed on maintaining and enhancing professional excellence throughout a career.
The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB)
The Chartered Institute of Building is at the heart of a management and leadership career in the built environment.
We are the world's largest and most influential professional body for construction management and leadership. We have a Royal Charter to promote the science and practice of building and construction for the benefit of society, and we’ve been doing that since 1834. Our members work worldwide in the development, conservation and improvement of the built environment.
We accredit university degrees, educational courses and training. Our professional and vocational qualifications are a mark of the highest levels of competence and professionalism, providing assurance to clients and other professionals procuring built assets.
Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI)
The Royal Town Planning Institute is the UK's leading planning body for spatial, sustainable and inclusive planning and is the largest planning institute in Europe with over 25,000 members.
The Architecture Foundation
The Architecture Foundation is Britain's first independent architecture centre. Established in 1991, it aims to examine contemporary issues in architectural theory and practice. The Architecture Foundation has organised public exhibitions, architectural initiatives, competitions and debates.
The Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS)
The Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS) was founded in 1916 as the professional body for all chartered architects in Scotland and is the foremost Institute in the country dealing with architecture and the built environment.
The RIAS has charitable status and offers a wide range of services and products for architects, students of architecture, construction industry professionals and all those with an interest in the built environment and the design process.
The Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (RIAI)
The Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland founded in 1839, is the competent authority for architects and professional body for Architecture in the Republic of Ireland.
