SCOSA Internal Funding: Approval Framework

1. Purpose

SCOSA may provide limited internal funding to support pedagogic, research, and collaborative initiatives that advance architectural education across member schools.

Funding allocations are designed to ensure equitable benefit to SCOSA members and transparency in decision-making.

2. Governance and Approval

  • All funding proposals should be submitted to the Chair(s) using the ‘SCOSA Internal Funding: Application Form’.

  • Applications for funding up to £2000 (including VAT where applicable) are reviewed and determined by the Chair(s)/Treasurer.

  • Applications for funding above £2000 are reviewed and determined by the Council.

  • Funding is only granted for proposals with a specified fixed duration.  No open-ended funding proposals can be considered.

3. Core Funding Criteria

Projects or initiatives must demonstrate:

  1. Direct benefit to all SCOSA member schools (e.g. shared learning resources, cross-institutional teaching pilots, public dissemination activities).

  2. Alignment with SCOSA’s aim to support architectural education, including pedagogic innovation, inclusivity, and professional relevance.

  3. Clear outcomes and value for money: realistic budget and defined deliverables.

  4. Open access and sharing of outputs with all member institutions (e.g. publication on the SCOSA website, workshop participation, or online resources).

4. Ethical and Professional Safeguards

To protect SCOSA’s integrity and ensure fairness, the following principles must apply:

  • Commercial use of funds: SCOSA funding should not be used to promote or advantage commercial products, services, or corporate partnerships.

  • Anti-competitive conduct: Funded projects should avoid creating unfair advantage for any individual school, organisation, or private partner.

  • Independence of judgement: Projects should uphold academic and pedagogic independence from external commercial influence.

  • Conflict of interest: Any member with a financial or institutional interest in a proposal must declare it and withdraw from the related decision.

  • Ethical compliance: All funded activities should adhere to sector ethical standards, equality, diversity, and inclusion policies.
